The U-Maths Governor Network Day 2023 was an opportunity for maths school governors and invited guests to come together for a day of learning and to share governor experiences, supporting the excellence and future legacy of maths schools.
Conference Aston in Birmingham was the location chosen to meet – geographically well placed for 50 colleagues travelling from the city itself and from Exeter, London, Liverpool, Lancaster, Cambridge, Leeds, Surrey, and elsewhere.
Having been canvassed in advance about their interests, the agenda was compiled to enable discussion in peer-led sessions of topics relevant for maths school governing bodies such as: university links; staff development; equality, diversity and inclusion; paths to employment; and cultural collaboration.
We were also delighted to welcome external speakers from XTX Markets, the Department for Education and Exeter College to share their insights with the group.
An undoubted highlight of the day was hearing from five alumni from Exeter Mathematics School and King’s College London Mathematics School who spoke about their own maths school experiences and where their time at maths schools had led them – truly inspirational.
U-Maths intends to recreate this forum for governors in future years – please look out for further details.
