Dan was the founding headteacher at King’s College London Mathematics School, the first of this wave of statefunded specialist mathematics schools opened in partnership with flagship universities.

Dan is also Professor of Practice of Mathematics Education at King’s College London, and Chair of Trustees at Axiom Maths. Prior to becoming a teacher (his first teaching job was at Highgate School in London), Dan studied mathematics at the University of Cambridge.

Tiffany oversaw the outreach programme at King’s College London Mathematics School and the work the school did to widen participation in the mathematical sciences. She was also the member of the Senior Leadership Team with responsibility for Equality and Diversity across the school.

Tiffany has a degree in Psychology, Philosophy, and Physiology from Oxford University and qualified as a maths teacher with Teach First. After teaching, she worked for The Access Project, a social mobility and education charity supporting young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to get into top universities.

Sophie was a founding member of Exeter Maths School, where she played a pivotal role in managing its Outreach provision from the very beginning. Wearing multiple hats in the early years, she became Director of Outreach in 2021, leading projects and initiatives to inspire and support primary and secondary students across the South West.

In 2024, Sophie joined U-Maths as Project and Operations Manager, bringing her extensive experience to support the wider Maths School network. She is passionate about widening participation for mathematically able students from disadvantaged backgrounds, ensuring they have the opportunities and support needed to realise their potential.

Kate worked in senior quality assurance and governance roles in higher education for over 20 years in London and Bath before joining U-Maths in 2024.

She is proud to be part of an organisation that supports the provision of opportunities for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, and creates safe learning environments where young people can find their ‘tribe’ and excel.

Alison was the founding Chair of Governors at King’s College London Mathematics School and a founding trustee of the University Maths School Network. She is the Sir Roy Griffiths Professor of Public Sector Management at King’s College London and sits as a crossbench peer in the House of Lords. She authored the Wolf Report on vocational education (2011), was a member of the Augar Review of post-secondary education (2019), and from 2020 to 2023 was seconded to the No. 10 Policy Unit as expert adviser on skills to the Prime Minister. Her academic work focuses on the relationship between education and the labour market, with a particular emphasis on mathematics.

Amy has been a school governor for 14 years, including serving as Chair of Governors at Swaffham Bulbeck Primary School, founding Trustee of the University of Cambridge Primary School, and now Vice-Chair of the Eastern Learning Alliance and Link Trustee for the Cambridge Mathematics School. She was a National Leader of Governance for four years, supporting schools in challenging circumstances.

Alongside her governance work, Amy co-founded STNC, the first company in the world to put web browsers onto mobile phones, later acquired by Microsoft. She was a non-executive director at Audio Analytic, a global leader in AI sound recognition, until its acquisition by Meta.

She now runs the i-Teams programme at the University of Cambridge, which has led to the creation of more than 120 start-ups, and also serves as Co-Chair of Cambridge Angels and Trustee of the Cambridge Science Centre.

Amy studied Mathematics at Trinity College, Cambridge.

Andrew has worked in secondary education for more than 35 years, most recently as Director of Education for Learning Partners Academy Trust. He currently works with school leaders in the UK and internationally through the delivery of National Professional Qualifications, and was Project Lead for Surrey Mathematics School throughout its pre-opening phase and first year of operation.

Damian has taught mathematics since 1997 and still enjoys the spark when students grasp a new idea. As the founding Headteacher of the University of Liverpool Mathematics School, he has led the school since its opening and worked with colleagues across the network to support the establishment of new maths schools. He combines a passion for teaching with a commitment to giving young people opportunities to explore mathematical and scientific reasoning and to pursue ambitious careers in STEM.

Ellen is Principal of Durham Sixth Form Centre, Chief Executive Officer of Providence Learning Partnership, and a Trustee of a large Multi Academy Trust in the North East of England. She plays a national role in sixth form leadership development, mentoring aspiring and new Principals across the country. With a background in technology, she champions sixth form outreach in STEM and recently devised the mathematics and computer science strategy for the Centre, making it accessible across the wider region. Ellen has been part of the Durham Mathematics School team since its inception and is a passionate advocate of mathematics education.

Jan is Professor of Algebra at Lancaster University, with research interests in noncommutative geometry. He has taught widely in pure mathematics in Oxford and Lancaster, and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, and a Chartered Mathematician. He has held senior leadership roles including Associate Dean for Engagement and Internationalisation in the Faculty of Science and Technology, and has been the university’s principal liaison with Lancaster University School of Mathematics (LUSoM) since its opening. He is currently Vice-Chair of Trustees at LUSoM.

Maggie is Professor of Immunology at Imperial College London, Associate Provost (Societal Engagement), and the founding Academic Director of the Centre for Societal Engagement. Since joining Imperial in 1994, she has held a range of academic leadership roles and now leads the College’s Societal Engagement Strategy. She is committed to widening participation and giving young people the opportunity to reach their potential, with a particular focus on underserved and underrepresented groups. Through Imperial’s public engagement, community outreach, and STEM education programmes, her division creates pathways for young people to explore education and research. Her scientific research centres on the regulation of inflammation and immunity.
