A community for girls in University Maths Schools

U-Maths Girls brings together students from Maths Schools across the country to celebrate achievement, build confidence, and create lasting connections.

If you’re studying at a University Maths School, U-Maths Girls is here for you – to help you connect, share your journey, and discover what’s possible with the support of this community.

At a time when only around 30% of Maths School students are girls, and just over a quarter of A-Level Further Maths students nationwide are female, our mission is simple:

Support girls to thrive in mathematics and beyond

Connect students with each other and with inspiring role models

Celebrate the journeys and achievements of young women in STEM

What We Do

Annual Event – Held on International Women’s Day, featuring talks from women in STEM, alumni panels, and workshops ranging from black holes to aerospace engineering.

Newsletters – A regular update with opportunities, inspiring stories, and advice from alumni and women across STEM fields.

Student Representatives – A network of girls in each Maths School who help shape events, share opportunities, and provide peer support.

Community & Guidance – A supportive network, with points of contact in each school for advice, encouragement, and connection.

Why it Matters

Research shows that girls often lack confidence in maths despite strong results, with many leaving the subject because they don’t see a clear future.

U-Maths Girls is here to change that.

We believe mathematics isn’t just about solving problems – it’s about discovery, joy, and building confidence together.
